Practice projects and case studies

Six exercises I have set myself, run on pages I control. Every card below is labelled as practice work. None of it involves a client, and none of it claims a result I cannot show.

How these are labelled

Practice means the work was done on my own test pages, for learning. Case study means there is a full write-up with objectives, findings and methods. Numbers in the case study are illustrative and marked as such. When I complete real work, it will be labelled Client work and will only appear with permission and real measurements.

All projects

Ordered roughly by how much of the method is documented, not by importance.

01 / CASE STUDY

On-page and technical audit of a test site

A small site audited end to end: crawl comparison, canonical review, title and heading rewrite, internal linking, and a prioritised fix list with illustrative before-and-after data.

04 / PRACTICE

Keyword research and search intent analysis

Build a query list for a topic, group it by intent, and assign exactly one page to each group so pages stop competing with each other for the same question.

05 / PRACTICE

Content optimization

Rewrite an existing article so it answers the query in the first two paragraphs, then compare the old and new versions side by side in a change log.

06 / PRACTICE

Internal linking and performance

Two related exercises: replace vague anchor text with descriptive links across the site, and reduce page weight until Lighthouse stops complaining about images and fonts.

What these projects do not claim

Worth stating plainly, because portfolios often blur this line.

No client work yet

Every project here is self-directed on my own test pages. No client, employer or third-party site is involved.

No traffic or ranking claims

Any before-and-after figures are illustrative examples that demonstrate the reporting format, and are labelled as such.

No results without measurement

Results sections stay empty until there is real data. An empty results table is more honest than a fabricated one.

The case study walks through the full audit, including the findings I got wrong the first time. The blog covers the individual methods in more detail.
